ABOUT US
Public Defender Services of Lane County, Inc. is a nonprofit law firm dedicated to protecting the rights, dignity, and voice of people in our community. Since 1977, we have provided court-appointed legal representation to adults, youth, and families in Lane County, ensuring that every person — regardless of income — has access to skilled, ethical, and compassionate defense. We believe that all people, regardless of their financial status, have the right to high-quality representation – especially when their liberty is on the line.
Our work is grounded in a client-centered approach. We believe that every person we represent is more than their case or the charges they face. Our attorneys and staff strive to build trust, listen carefully, and help our clients make informed decisions about their lives and their future. We recognize that many of our clients are navigating difficult circumstances, and we are committed to treating each person with respect and empathy.
We represent clients in a wide range of matters, including criminal defense, probation violations, juvenile cases, mental health commitments, and cases affecting parental rights. In every case, we stand firmly behind the presumption of innocence and advocate tirelessly to protect our clients’ rights, liberty, and well-being.
At our core, our attorneys and staff work to deliver outstanding legal defense while honoring the humanity of every person we serve, and strengthening fairness in our legal system.
We represent adults and juveniles charged with everything from trespass to murder.
We fight for the rights of people who are accused of violating their probation, and for those who are facing jail because they are behind on their child support payments.
We fight for the rights of parents and children when the State becomes involved in termination proceedings, and
We fight for the rights of those affected by mental illness when the State tries to hold them against their will.
